- Start taking lessons when your children are young — age 4+. Capitalize on their enthusiasm.
- When children study music, incorporate playtime with other similarly aged children.
- Do they like to naturally sing or hum a tune they hear? Capitalize on that enthusiasm.

How to Memorize Music — by Dr. Arthur Scott
Tackle a line of a few measures at a time:
- 4× Eyes Open
- 2× Squinting — look if you need to
- 1× Eyes Closed — hands alone first, then hands together
- Repeat cycle as needed
Exceptions: if a piece is too hard, stop. Choose something else with your teacher's help so you can gain success in a reasonable amount of time. Also work with your teacher to choose pieces you like and resonate with — this will be more fulfilling and motivating.
